IT was the perfect start to the season for Bishop's Cleeve as they romped to a 4-1 win over Wantage Town in the extra-preliminary round of the FA Cup last weekend.
Jack Watts, Harrison Reeves, George Box, and Jordan Annear all found the back of the net for Cleeve, who will now play Brimscombe and Thrupp FC in the preliminary round of the prestigious competition.
Elsewhere for sides in the Cotswolds, Moreton Rangers got their new season start off in style as they claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Malmesbury Victoria in the Hellenic League Division One.
Callum Briggs scored the only goal of the game for Moreton as they began their 2022/23 campaign in ideal fashion.
But they couldn’t repeat their victory on Tuesday however, as they lost 2-0 to FC Stratford, leaving them comfortably in mid table after the opening fixtures.
As for Bourton Rovers, they managed a draw on the opening day, playing out a 1-1 game against Abingdon United.
George Callinan levelled the game for Bourton who found themselves behind to a Oliwer Orzechowski goal.
Bourton were also in action on Tuesday night as they faced off against title favourites Pershore Town at the Community Stadium
The Plums ran away 2-0 victors in the game, with goals from Logan Stoddart and James Clarke sealing the victory but it was a stern test for the hosts as Bourton produced a display that will fill them with confidence for the season ahead.
Finally, Cheltenham Saracens started their season off with a 1-1 draw away to Calne Town.
Stuart Midwinter scored the only goal of the game for the Sarries, with Nicholas Milla grabbing the only goal for Calne.
