CHRISTIAN celebrity musical couple Paul and Fiona Jones drew a packed house when they sang and spoke about their journey of faith at Chipping Campden Baptist Church on Friday evening.
Paul Jones, the former lead singer of Manfred Mann, told the audience how back in the sixties he was a committed atheist and had appeared on television arguing vehemently against Cliff Richard against the existence of God.
Years later, after meeting Fiona in a West End production, Paul received a phone call from Cliff inviting them to a big Christian meeting at Queens Park Rangers football ground in London, led by the Argentinian-born evangelist Luis Palau. After hearing him speak, they couple decided to make a commitment both to Jesus and to themselves and decided to become Christians and to get married.
That was 26 years ago and they now travel around the country telling people of their Christian faith, as well as pursuing their own singing careers.
The couple sang a number of their gospel songs and Fiona also sang a song that meant so much to her – I Don't Know How to Love Him from Jesus Christ Superstar, which had moved her so much when she first heard it as a child and which she sang at the West End audition that gave her her big break in showbusiness.
