A warning about rogue traders has been issued with flood clean-up operations in full swing across Worcestershire.
The county council’s trading standards officers are concerned that rogue traders might exploit the aftermath of the storms and floods to make money.
They are known to carry out poor-quality work and sometimes disappear after taking money for materials without doing any work.

Councillor Karen May, cabinet member responsible for communities at the council, said: "We are encouraging homeowners to be on their guard against less reputable traders who may take advantage of any damage caused by the storms and flooding by trying to convince homeowners to pay for unnecessary or over-priced repair work.
"Whilst it can be tempting to employ the first person who comes to your door offering to fix that damaged fence or lost roof tiles, it can be hard to tell a good trader from a rogue on the doorstep, so trading standards are advising residents not to buy at the door and instead seek a range of quotes from reputable traders."
Homeowners are advised to ignore cold callers and check with their insurance company to see if they are covered for repairs.
Most insurance companies have their own tradespeople to carry out the work.
For those not covered by insurance, they can find a reliable trader through various approval schemes.
The trading standards team have a list of tips to avoid rogue traders.
These include avoiding engaging with anyone who calls unannounced, checking references and qualifications, preparing a detailed description of the work needed, meeting with prospective tradesmen, checking they have insurance, and getting at least three written quotes.
A written contract should also be secured, detailing the identity of the trader, their address and telephone number, costs, and a payment schedule.
Suspected rogue traders can be reported to the Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 0808 223 1133.
