A CAR 'of interest to the police', which was spotted in a Cotswold town, has been abandoned in a neighbouring county after fleeing the force.
The car was spotted in Mickleton on Thursday (November 21) and was 'of interest' for a variety of reasons, according to the police.
Once spotted, the officer put his blue lights on and the car fled.
The officer did not pursue the car due to the risks involved at the time.
The car was later found abandoned in Warwickshire and was seized.
Putting the car out of action put a smile on the officers faces and the registered owner will now be receiving a notice requiring them to tell police who was driving the car at the time.
A Gloucestershire Constabulary spokesperson said: "While patrolling Mickleton this evening PC Sam Poole and SpCI Steve Lindsay saw a car that has been of interest to the Neighbourhood Policing Team for a variety of reasons.
"When Sam activated his car's blue lights the suspect vehicle sped off failing to stop.
"The circumstances did not necessitate a pursuit with the inherent risks that come with it.
"Sam being Sam he set out to relocate the car and driver.
"If a driver fails to stop for Police when directed to do so they commit an offence under the Road Traffic Act.
"The failing to stop also affords officers the opportunity to seize the car if they believe the car was being driven without the correct licence or insurance.
"But, that power of seizure ends after 24 hours.
"It took nowhere near that long for PC Poole & C/I Lindsay to locate the suspect's car, unattended, just over the border in Warwickshire.
"Finding and seizing a car in these circumstances, from this sort of driver, always puts a smile on our faces.
"The registered owner will be receiving a notice or intended prosecution and a notice requiring them to inform Police who was driving at the time.
"Hopefully they might read this post so they find out sooner just who has their car.
"Well done Sam & Steve."
