LAND next to a town high school could be earmarked for future housing.

Almost ten acres of land in Shipston could be used to accommodate up to 90 new homes if the land is included in the South Warwickshire Local Plan (SWLP) and planning permission is approved.

The land, 9.5 acres in total, is next to Shipston's Leisure Centre and High School.

The site is being advertised for development by Rainier Developments.

The group say on their website: "Rainier Developments is promoting 9.5 acres of land at Shipston-on-Stour through the emerging Local Plan.

"The land is located adjacent to the northern edge of the village in a sustainable location and has the potential to accommodate up to 90 new homes.

"Over the coming months the site will continue to be promoted through the various stages of the emerging Local Plan with a view to securing the site’s allocation upon adoption."

According to concept images on the groups website, the new homes would be accessed from Darlingscote Road.

A spokesperson for the group said: "Rainier has been working with the landowner over a number of years to promote the land through the Stratford-on-Avon District Site Allocations Plan and, more recently, the South Warwickshire Local Plan.

"It is one of a number of sites around Shipston that have been put forward to the council in the Call for Sites exercise, and we believe it is well placed to contribute towards meeting the emerging housing needs in Stratford District.”

The SWLP is the plan between Warwickshire County Council and Stratford District Council to provide a sustainable development for growth and infrastructure in the county.

In 2023 an executive committee agreed to a SWLP timeline which means that nothing will be set in stone until 2027.

The council, also in 2023, held an "Issues and options" public consultation.

From this they promised to ensure the focus of the next public consultation, improve the readability where possible, reduce the size of the document and improve navigability, explore new engagement tools and continue to raise awareness.

The next public consultation is currently taking place between November 2024 and January 2025 and is labelled as 'preferred options'.

Outline planning permission is currently being sought after for 34 homes in Shipston at Hansen Farm.

Plans for the homes in Hansen Farm were submitted in June however no decision has yet been reached.

Residents had concerns that the homes, which would only be available for over 55s, would impact a popular footpath.
