AN ELDERLY Cotswold resident has surrendered a large amount of banned knives to police.
The elderly woman surrendered more than 20 knives to Gloucestershire Constabulary on Monday, September 23.
The blades, which included multiple machetes and daggers, belonged to her late husband.
A spokesperson for the Cotswold Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "You may have heard about the change in legislation around the ownership of certain types of knives.
"For a short period, we have been accepting the surrender of this type of knife in order to get them out of circulation.
"We were contacted by an elderly resident in the south of the district who had heard about the law change and wanted our help to relieve her of her late husband's collection of knives.
"PC Harry MacPherson attended today (September 24) and was shown the collection.
"After he picked his jaw up off the floor he boxed up the blades and drove them (very gingerly) back to the station.
"We are grateful to our caller and each knife will now be sent for safe destruction."
