Evidence of more than 8,000 years of human activity has been uncovered in Broadway.

The findings are the result of an archaeological excavation at Milestone Ground, which was carried out by Worcestershire Archaeology on behalf of Wychavon District Council.

The dig has found evidence of human activity dating back to the Mesolithic era, which was around 5,500 to 8,500 years ago.

The findings suggest Broadway may have been considered a significant settlement by our ancestors.

The council will provide guided tours of the land on an open day at Milestone Ground to explain the secrets and mysteries the site has revealed.

Councillor Paul Middlebrough, executive board member for planning, infrastructure, and urban design on the council, said: "Archaeological work usually only happens as part of commercial developments through the planning process, meaning the public very rarely get to find out or see what’s been discovered.

"That’s why we wanted this site fully explored before sale and for the findings to be shared with the public.

"History belongs to the public, and I encourage as many people as possible to attend the open day, talk to the team and find out how this site is changing our understanding of Broadway and the wider district."

The archaeological work is expected to continue until early 2025.

The land will only be sold when the work has finished and the developer has obtained planning permission.

Details of the proposed development will not be available at the open day, but the developer will separately share details of how the community can comment on the plans before they submit a planning application.

The open day is free to attend.
