Moreton motorists have been warned to keep an eye out for "major" roadworks in the area.

National Grid Electricity Distribution has announced a series of staggered road closures and temporary traffic lights from Monday, September 9.

The measures are part of the reinforcement of the high voltage network to accommodate new and future electricity demand in the town.

Due to these roadworks, the National Grid says that motorists in the area might experience slight delays to their journeys at peak times.

Diversion routes will be provided when certain roads are closed off, which drivers are advised to be vigilant for.

A spokesperson for National Grid Electricity Distribution said: "This is essential reinforcement work to meet new and future demand, and we acknowledge that there may be some short-term disruption to residents, businesses and visitors alike.

"However, we’ve worked hard to limit the impact these works will have on the local community as best we can.

"There is never an ideal time to implement road closures and undertake works, but we would like to thank the residents in Moreton-in-Marsh for their patience and understanding while we complete the works, and are sorry for any inconvenience caused."

The series of road closures and the operation of multi-way signals will be staggered where possible, in hopes of minimising disruption for residents.

From Monday, 9 to Tuesday, September 17, Corders Lane will be closed, with a diversion via Hospital Road/High Street in place.

From Monday, September 16 to Tuesday, October 15, High Street Access Road will be closed, with a diversion route in place via adjoining spine roads which are dependent on positioning of the closure at the time.

From Monday, October 14 to Tuesday, November 5, Batsford Road will be closed.

During the same period, multi-way signals will be in operation on High St/Stratford Road at the junction of the close Batsford Road (A429).

From Monday, October 14 until Friday, December 13, multi-way signals will also be in operation on High Street (A429) toward Church Street.

Lastly, from Wednesday, November 20 until Friday, December 13, the exit from the East Street parking area on High Street will be closed, with the exit via the East Street entrance.
