A Broadway-based author is set to release the first novel in his mysterious epic high fantasy series.
The book, titled, 'The Curiosities of Perciville Harper', is the first entry of the Sarsen series, penned by debut author Simon Batsman.
Set to be published on Tuesday (September 24), the novel follows Fjona Sarsen, a sheltered young woman from the island of Marrow Myre, whose life is changed forever by a chance encounter with a dark-haired stranger.

The previously peaceful realm of the Arvum is experiencing upheaval after three centuries of stability, now faced with the resurgence of an apocalyptic curse known as the Eight Afflictions.
Perciville Harper, one of the last sages left in a near-extinct populace, seeks an apprentice to master the art of manipulation, a form of magic.
If the Eight Afflictions aren't recaptured, it could spell disaster for the realm.
Batsman, previously an archaeologist, crafted a story with science and realism at its foundation, where magic isn't random but can be logically explained within the story's context.
Unlike most fantasy novels, there is no ‘chosen one’ in Batsman's narrative, Fjona's epic journey is a result of a series of circumstances.
The series promise mystery, personal growth, romance, spine-tingling horror and a touch of humour.
The author gave some insight into how his prior career influenced his writing.
Batsman said: "My background in archaeology has been influential in creating the world of the Arvum.
"I am interested in different and unique cultures, their behaviours, religions, practices and, in particular, the way that people have adapted to an ever-changing world."
Inspired by a documentary about a community residing inside a bridge in the US, Batsman contemplated how societies would evolve if their environment remained unchanged for thousands of years.
Initially, his intention was to write a fantasy tale set in future Earth.
Still, an abundance of ideas led him to create an ambiguous world, left to the reader's interpretation.
"When I told my now-wife about my ideas, she was thrilled – she loves fantasy novels – and I immediately started writing," he said.
