Summer rail journeys in the North Cotswolds are set to be disrupted by engineering works.

Network Rail will be replacing the track on the North Cotswolds route in August, affecting Great Western Railway (GWR) services.

The works will target the route between Charlbury and Moreton-in-Marsh from Monday, August 12 to Thursday, August 15.

Trains will continue to run from London Paddington to Charlbury via Oxford during these dates.

Limited trains will also run from London Paddington to Hereford via Swindon.

A regular service will still operate between Moreton-in-Marsh and Worcester, Great Malvern, and Hereford.

GWR's station manager for Oxford, Didcot and North Cotswolds, Billy White, said: "This improvement work forms part of an ongoing programme of maintenance, helping to ensure we can continue to provide consistent and reliable services.

"GWR will provide rail replacement services between Charlbury and Moreton-in-Marsh, which will reduce the parking spaces available at those stations.

"For customers in the Moreton-in-Marsh area, the car park at Kingham station by contrast will have many more parking spaces available.

"Ticket acceptance has also been agreed to enable customers to travel on other train services between London and Worcester, Great Malvern or Hereford.

"However, these alternative travel arrangements via Birmingham or Bristol Parkway will make journey times much longer, so please check before you travel."

Mark Parker, lead portfolio manager for Network Rail, said: "Track renewals are an essential part of maintaining the railway and our work is vital to provide smooth and safe journeys.

"We're sorry for the disruption this will cause and thank passengers for their patience."
