REFURBISHMENT works at a leisure centre in the Cotswolds will transform the venue.

Funded by the Cotswold District Council, improvements at Bourton Leisure Centre will be carried out throughout August to enhance the experience of visitors.

The refurbishment will cost £203,000.

Paul Hodgkinson, cabinet member for health, leisure and parking at Cotswold District Council, said: "This will be about working out in style."

The improvements will affect many aspects of the leisure centre, such as the dance studio.

"The studio flooring will have improved performance with a really sleek and modern look," Cllr Hodgkinson said, "The upgrade won't just enhance the aesthetics of the studio, but will also improve workout experiences."

In the café, a new Costa Coffee Point will be added, which will serve drinks and snacks while creating a social space for before or after workouts and swims.

Changes will also be coming to the changing rooms, Cllr Hodgkinson explained: "We're committed to inclusivity and accessibility for everyone.

"We're introducing new changing place facilities, to make sure everyone can enjoy our leisure centre comfortably."

These improvements will include a room for disabled changing with space for two assistants, an accessible toilet with hoist facilities and a privacy screen.

In the pool area, new water play features will be added for younger swimmers, which will help boost water confidence in children.

Some improvements have already been completed such as the new showers which use less water and less energy, as well as an improved look.

Lee Thomas, Freedom Leisure regional manager, said: "These improvements underpin our firm commitment to Cotswold District Council that we will deliver the best possible service and facilities to the community of Bourton.

"The works will expand our portfolio of activities to include a much-improved offer for children in the pool, for our group exercise participants and enable those that need more support to access the facility more easily with the addition of changing places

Ben Griffiths, operations manager at Bourton-on-the-Water Leisure Centre, said: "We're really excited to showcase our new facilities to our members.

"Hopefully, over the next few weeks, you'll see the updates taking place."
