A COTSWOLDS MP has opposed the renationalising of the railway network in  The King's Speech.

Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, the recently re-elected MP for the North Cotswolds has reacted to the King's Speech.

The King's Speech is written by the government and is part of the State Opening of Parliament ceremony.

Mr Clifton-Brown said: "The King’s Speech consisting of 39 Bills is one of the longest in recent times and will certainly keep Parliament busy enacting all the legislation.

"There are a number of bills being carried over by the previous Government including the Tobacco and Vapes Bill, and aspects found in the Children’s Wellbeing Bill, and Planning Reform.

"However, some of the key bits of the government legislation I totally oppose, such as increasing the size of the state through measures such as Great British Railways and Great British Energy.

"From my extensive work as deputy chair of the public accounts committee, we have often found the public sector far less efficient than the private.

"When you combine that with removing VAT exemption for independent schools which will inevitably lead to more students moving into the already stretched state sector, it seems to me that there are many measures that will act against the Government's professed need for growth to solve our economic problems.

"I look forward to scrutinising all these bills during this parliament."
