They discussed the causes of sewage pollution in the district and potential ways to prevent it in future.

Sewage pollution, especially its effects on rivers and waterways, has been a growing concern both in the area and nationally in recent years.

The council has expressed its determination to hold the people behind the pollution to account, and finding solutions in response.

Through the Sewage Summit, residents had the opportunity to learn from Cotswold waterway experts and voice their concerns.

Cllr Lisa Spivey, cabinet member for communities and public safety, said: "Thank you to everyone who attended our Sewage Summit on Monday, it was fantastic to see so many of you there.

"We had some really engaging talks during the morning session from water companies, environment agencies and activists.

"This was followed by a Q&A session in the afternoon where your questions were put towards the experts."

She added: "This was such an insightful task and from the feedback we have received so far, many attendees benefitted from it greatly.

"These are the sorts of open discussions we need to be having if we are to make a difference and protect our beautiful district from the harm of sewage dumping."

Ms Spivey added: "We will continue to work with partners and do what we can within our powers as the District Council to solve this issue in the Cotswolds."

Looking ahead, the council plans to keep up these discussions and prepare a report with recommendations for a full council meeting in September.
