THE chair of a parish council hopes a new multi-storey will help alleviate 'parking chaos' at Worcester hospital with plans set to go under the microscope.

Lucy Hodgson, chair of Warndon Parish Council, has given her initial reaction to the proposed 850 space multi-storey car park near Worcestershire Royal Hospital in Worcester.

A joint planning application, including plans for a 600 place secondary school, could be submitted by the end of this month, Worcestershire County Council has confirmed.

If it goes ahead, the multi-storey would be served by a new access road off Nunnery Way (A4440).

Cllr Hodgson says she and other members of the parish council intend to look at the plans in more detail when they are revealed at a drop-in information session at Hall 2, Lyppard Hub, Ankerage Green, Worcester on Wednesday, July 17 from 1pm to 7pm.

She said: "We certainly welcome the initial plans but obviously we don't know the details. My hope is that it will alleviate some of the parking chaos around the hospital. We're also mindful about the school and how it will fit in there as well.

"If it's going to alleviate some of the congestion around the hospital, it's good news."

The cabinet member for Corporate Services and Communication will consider a report on Wednesday as to whether a joint application is made for the new 600 place secondary school in Worcester, a new multi-story car park adjacent to Worcestershire Royal Hospital and a new access road to the car park from Nunnery Way (A444) to the site.

A spokesperson for Worcestershire County Council said: "The joint application would enable a fully thought out approach and solution to the access and controls over traffic arising from the two key developments on the land – the school and the car park – in addition to other planning matters such as ecology to be addressed for the whole site, at the same time.

"If the Cabinet member approves, the joint planning application will aim to be submitted by the end of July. If the joint application is not ready by then, we can submit a stand-alone application for the school so as not to impact on the school’s planned opening for the academic year of 2028/2029."

Worcester based specialist health and care developer, Prime plc, is working with the county council to devise a parking and access solution which will ease traffic congestion on roads surrounding the hospital and support the development of a new secondary school on land to the east of the hospital.

They intend to submit a joint planning application for the school, an 850-space multi-storey car park and new access and exit road onto the A4440 Nunnery Way.

The road will allow entry to, and exit from, the car park and create the potential for new “blue light” route for emergency vehicles to reach and leave the hospital.
