AN ANNUAL charity ride that has raised over £20,000 will be passing through the Cotswolds and The Vale of Evesham this weekend.

The Toffs and Totties charity ride which starts in Gloucester and passes through Stow, Broadway, Evesham and Pershore before finishing in Upton on Severn will be happening on July 6.

An estimated 150 bikes will set off from Gloucester, stopping at The Trouble House in Tetbury, Stow and the Plough Inn in Upton on Severn.

All the money raised from the 120-mile trip will go towards the Neonatal Unit at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

The rides are organised by Michelle and Mark Merrett.

Michelle Merrett said: "We started in 2016 and since 2017 we have raised over £20,000 for Scoo-B-Doo, a charity for the Neonatal Unit at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

"We start in Gloucester at 9.45am and head to The Trouble House in Tetbury for tea and cakes, we then stop in the Market Square in Stow for lunch.

"We then pass through Broadway, Evesham and Pershore before stopping at the Plough Inn in Upton on Severn.

"Normally we have around 150 bikes, it's a donation-only event for 125cc bikes and above."

The ride will set off at 9.45am from Southgate Street in Gloucester.

Bikers are being asked to wear their 'Sunday best' like in The Distinguished Gentleman's Bike Ride.

Mrs Merrett continued: "We started after we were not allowed to join another exclusive bike ride.

"So we decided to do our own version, anyone with a bike, male or female and it's all for charity.

"The ride is around 120 miles and we plan to finish around 4pm.

"Last year was really successful despite the weather, we raised over £2,500 which was really good and everyone enjoyed taking part.

"Not all bikers are bad people, we are not all ruffians, most of us are good people and a lot of bikers do charity bike rides.

"The money we raise will help more than people think, it's a local cause and will save babies lives."

The Plough Inn will be serving drinks and a BBQ along with live music for the bikers.

Simon Clarke, Stow Town Council councillor, said: "They have been coming here for many years and it is one of their favourite stops.

"They raise a lot of money for such a great cause, it's always very popular and it's great to see so many motorbikes."
