A LEGENDARY guitarist has appeared in a Cotswold town to inspire the next generation of musicians.

In a sold-out event at Cidermill Theatre in Chipping Campden, Tony Iommi from Black Sabbath has talked about his life and answered questions from the audience on June 23.

Fans from across the country travelled to see the superstar and were able to see a newly commissioned film about his life specially curated for the event.

The rockstar was interviewed by his close friend, Nick Owen MBE from the BBC, about his upbringing and the formation of Black Sabbath.

An electric guitar that was given to Broadway Arts Festival (who organized the event) by Gibson Guitars, was later donated to Chipping Campden School as part of their schools outreach programme.

Broadway Arts Festival director, Alison Braithwaite said: "We feel very honoured to have been able to stage an event with such a music legend.

"One of the greatest guitarists of all time, casually chatting with an old friend and sharing stories from such a fascinating life.

"We received a gorgeous vintage cherry Tony Iommi signature guitar from Gibson Guitars for the event and we decided it would have the most impact if we donated it to Chipping Campden School so that students could be inspired and get to play it and practice with it."

Chipping Campden School student Rowan Thompson, who Met Tony Iommi, is the first young person to have use of the guitar and recently played at the Shipston Proms.

Helena Hesketh, director of music at Chipping Campden School said: "Several CCS students and myself attended the Tony Iommi event.

"It was great to hear his stories and really inspirational for the students to hear how Tony triumphed over adversity.

"It is fantastic that Broadway Arts Festival is able to put on such events in this area - their generosity means that students are able to experience a wider variety of arts activities that some students would otherwise not have access to.

"Rowan was delighted to have the opportunity to meet Tony as his first experiences of playing a guitar 10 years ago was performing riffs from Paranoid and War Pigs.

"Having such a guitar in the department will be inspirational for the students - they will be performing on the same model favoured by Tony and it is a truly beautiful instrument."

Tony Iommi is a resident of Broadway and has been a supporter of Broadway Arts Festival for some time.
