There has been another grass snake sighting not far from Swindon.

Last month the Advertiser shared some photos taken by a member of the public who came across one of only three snakes native to the UK while on a dog walk near Tadpole Garden Village.

And member of the Swindon and Wiltshire Camera Club, Lisa Mallon, has shared a photo of another sighting, this time at Cotswold Water Park.

She said: "Spotted [this] at DragonFly Café. Believe it is a Grass Snake. Not a great photo, zoomed in on my phone."

The photo shows the grass snake, which is a completely harmless breed, going for a swim in waters nearby.

While grass snakes are native to the UK and known to be in the area, they have been infrequently sighted in recent years.

An interactive map published in 2023 showed the number of snake sightings in and around the UK for that year.

The data had been pulled from a collaborative exercise from the Amphibian and Reptile Groups of the UK (ARG UK) and Amphibian and Reptile Conservation to collect data on native reptiles and amphibian populations and make that data publicly available.
