RAIL improvement work is set to impact journeys on the Cotswold line this month.
Plans to carry out track improvements will see the railway line between Charlbury and Moreton-in-Marsh closed for four days next week.
From Monday, October 23 to Thursday, October 26, buses will replace trains between Charlbury and Moreton-in-Marsh.
The buses will be timed to connect with trains which will continue to run between London Paddington and Charlbury, as well as from Moreton-in-Marsh towards Worcester and Hereford.
Billy White, GWR station manager for the Cotswolds Line, thanked passengers in advance for their patience and reminded them of the changes ahead which these important improvement works will help to bring.
Mr White said: “This work is vital to ensure we can continue to provide safe and reliable services to the North Cotswolds; allowing people to access educational facilities, travel to work, or explore the fantastic destinations the area has to offer.
“Buses will depart at different times to the normal train timetable and journey times will be a little longer than normal, so we encourage everyone travelling to check their journey and allow plenty of time to reach their destination.”
Where buses replace trains, journeys will be extended by up to 30 minutes. An alternative route into London through Cheltenham Spa and Swindon will remain open for passengers who may prefer to complete their journey by train.
Tickets valid via Evesham (except Advance tickets) will be accepted on this route.
Anthony Tuohy, infrastructure maintenance programme manager at Network Rail, said: “I’d like to thank passengers and lineside neighbours for their patience and understanding while we carry out essential track maintenance and replacement on the railway line between Ascott-under-Wychwood and Moreton-in-Marsh.
“This track replacement work will enable continued safe and reliable journeys on this vital route for years to come.”
