MORETON Rangers FC suffered a heartbreaking 4-2 loss on penalties after a tough game in the Floodlit Cup.
Moreton took on Brimscombe and Thrupp FC at The Meadow Ground away from home last night (Tuesday, September 12).
There was early disappointment for Moreton when a goal was ruled out due to it being offside at 38 minutes into the first half.
It was Brimscombe and Thrupp FC that drew first blood in the match, with a goal in the 57th minute.
Moreton was able to level the scoring late into the second half, stealing the ball from the opposition and going one-on-one with the keeper to finish.
The game finished 1-1 before moving on to some nail-biting penalties.
Brimscombe and Thrupp FC missed their first penalty and Moreton converted. Briscombe did not miss the second penalty, making it 1-1.
Moreton's second penalty was saved and Briscombe went up 2-1 with their third penalty.
Moreton were able to equalise with their third, which was followed by another Briscombe successful Briscombe penalty to make it 3-2.
The fourth penalty from Morton was saved and Briscombe converted their fourth and final to win the tie.
Brimscombe and Thrupp FC will now proceed into the next round of the cup.
