A 46 year old Chipping Campden man has been handed a six months suspended jail term after being convicted of assaulting two women - one of them on three occasions.
Bryan Thomas of Berrington rd, Chipping Campden, was told by Cheltenham Magistrate that he had a 'very concerning' attitude towards women.'
The court said he had exhibited "controlling behaviour, sexual jealousy and bullying behaviour" and there had been a risk of harm caused by
him putting his hands round the neck of his victims.
"Very concerning attitude towards women, and the incidents have had significant impact on the women," the court record said. "Offences aggravated by intoxication."
The magistrates told Thomas, however, that the jail terms totalling 26 weeks could be suspended "as there is evidence that you are capable of rehabilitation."
Thomas had pleaded not guilty to assaulting one woman (Pippa King) by beating in Moreton in Marsh on Nov 21st 2021, assaulting her between March 21-24 this year in Moreton and assaulting her by beating in Chipping Campden between 12-15 April this year. He was convicted of all three offences
He pleaded guilty to assaulting another woman (Hayley Brown) causing her actual bodily harm on 6th January this year in Chipping Campden.
For the three offences on the first victim he was sentenced to 8 weeks imprisonment and for the assault on the other woman 18 weeks consecutive. The sentences were all suspended for 18months.
He was also sentenced to do 100 hours of unpaid work as part of an 18 months supervision order which requires him to participate in an accredited probation programme for up to 30 days.
He was ordered to pay £500 compensation to the victim of three assaults and £300 to the other woman. The court also ordered him to pay trial costs of £775, a victim services surcharge of £128 and prosecution costs of £85.
The magistrates made restraining orders banning him from contacting either woman or going to their home addresses for two years.
