A woman who has turned 109 still has a bacon sandwich for breakfast every day.
Winifred Parker celebrated her birthday surrounded by five generations of her family at a care home in Woodstock, Oxfordshire.
She had a party with a saxophonist playing her favourite song, ‘I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles’, alongside balloons and cake on Thursday.
Winnie was a singer on the Birmingham club scene in her youth and was known for her “brilliant” singing.
She has ten great-great grandchildren, the oldest of which is 18, and another on the way in March.
Sally Connolly, activities coordinator at Winnies Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT) home said: “She just takes it in her stride, she puts her pearls on every day and gets dressed up.
“Winnie just loves life. She lies in till about 9.30am and then has a bacon sandwich every morning with a cup of tea.”
Winnie is the oldest resident at OSJCT, a charity which runs 60 care homes across the UK.
Great-granddaughter, Kelly White, said: “It’s priceless for the youngest children to have a great-great-grandparent.
“We all have so many wonderful memories of growing up with Winnie.”
The Orders of St John Care Trust is a not-for-profit care provider.
