AN experienced traffic policeman has said that he does not believe the stretch of the A429, where seven people died in the recent head-on collision, is unsafe.
Responding to a question about the road markings where the accident happened on Friday, March 7, PC Chris Skinner told Stow Town Council last week (March 20) that, in his personal opinion as a trained traffic officer, overtaking is safe along that stretch "if it is carried out as a safe manoeuvre".
PC Skinner, who said a full investigation would be carried out, added: "Generally the markings are correct."
He said that if double white lines are placed where there are overtaking opportunities drivers will become frustrated.
"They won't just blanket put double white lines throughout the north Cotswolds," said PC Skinner.
"We will wait and see what Highways decide what improvements can be made," he added.
