A 15-year-old from Chipping Norton who helped save the life of a seriously injured man has been praised by police.

As reported by the Journal last month, the teenager came across the man, who had severe lacerations to his throat, in Back Alley, Chipping Norton, on January 29.

The quick-thinking youth summoned assistance and, together with the help of three other young people, administered possible life-preserving first aid and reassurance until professional assistance arrived.

Sergeant Rosemary Dilsaver of Chipping Norton police, in her latest neighbourhood policing update issued last week, said: "It is all too often that we pounce on young people because of their perceived threat' to our communities in terms of anti-social behaviour, criminal damage and general intimidation.

"On this occasion it gave me great pleasure to write to the four young people involved to thank them for their responsible attitudes and valuable contribution."

Police said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the lacerations sustained by the injured man.

Sgt Dilsaver said in her latest update that a recent Friday night police operation in Chipping Norton and Charlbury to target well-known underage drinking haunts resulted in no alcohol being found.

"Further operations will take place during the coming year," she added.

She also said two Chipping Norton teenagers, aged 13 and 17, had received final warnings for causing criminal damage to several buses parked on the old Parker Knoll site before Christmas.

A 17-year-old has also received a final warning for causing criminal damage to Holy Trinity School on the same day.

Several local youths have been arrested and interviewed in connection with the recent burglary at the Londis Shop in Hailey Road and are awaiting charging decisions from the Youth Justice Panel.

Two local youths are also awaiting a charging decision from the panel after they were arrested for taking a car without consent from New Street car park.

A 28-year-old man was arrested and cautioned for causing criminal damage at an address in Cornish Road last month.
