Bloxham 1, Chipping Norton Town Swifts 2

ON A windswept afternoon, Bloxham failed to avenge their Oxon FA Cup semi-final defeat of the previous week to slide out of the Witney League's Knockout Cup.

Chippy played with the gale-force winds at their backs in the first half but found the Bloxham defence and a packed midfield in resilient mood.

Only a header, well saved by Matthew Brice, caused any major alarms in the opening quarter and it was Bloxham who took the lead when a fine Ryan Wilson run down the right flank fended with Charles Hawkins forcing the ball home.

Chipping Norton continued to press and got their reward when a long throw-in found Oliver Brotherston who turned the defence and finished low into the corner of the net.

Bloxham had a great chance to retake the lead when Robbie Catling set up Ryan Wilson with only the keeper to beat but Lewis Kemp did well to block the shot.

Bloxham looked to kick on in the second half but Chippy had other ideas and enjoyed the better of the play for long periods.

A fierce Alex Gandy strike was Bloxham's best attempt on goal while Gareth Price had a great chance for Chippy only to drag his shot wide.

Chipping Norton then took the lead when Price made amends to score a fine goal before Bloxham huffed and puffed to get back into the game.

Half-chances fell to Dan Kirwin, Luke Hodson and Alex Gandy but none were taken and Chippy held on to record a second semi-final win.

Hook Norton U-10 2, Witney Vikings Youth 0

HOOK Norton finished their season in style with a deserved victory.

They started well and pressure paid off when striker Jack Aitken won the ball near their corner flag and laid it back to Adam Hemmings who whipped in a great cross.

Tom Machin leapt to meet it and his deft header went in off a Witney defender.

Hooky's second goal started with a great through ball from player of the match Sam Green to Jack Aitken, who combined well with Hemmings and Sam Pougatch before a decisive finish gave the keeper no chance.

In the second half, Hooky again piled on the pressure but couldn't get the third. Witney fought back well and had a number of good chances to score but were denied every time by the superb goalkeeping of Alex Bull.

George Stapleton was also strong in defence all day and helped to ensure yet another clean sheet for the winners.

Chipping Norton Tn Swifts U-10 6, Wychwood Colts 0

CHIPPY started the game brilliantly and link-up play between captain Dan Newman, Matty Lewis and Josh Allen forced several corners in the first five minutes.

Wychwood did really well to keep their opponents at bay until Newman's corner Found the leaping Allen who was denied by Harry Williamson but Allen tapped in the rebound.

Then Swifts really went for it. Striker Jack Williams-Sharkey's shot was well saved again and then Lewis placed a shot brilliantly into the far corner.

Allen grabbed his second and Chippy's third when Newman's long run was cancelled out nicely by Orren Bennett. However the alert Allen pounced and squeezed the ball into the corner for 3-0.

It was soon four courtesy of a fine solo effort from Lewis.

The second half picked up from where the first ended except Swifts were constantly denied by the defence with Shaun Kemp and Daniel Lay both having shots saved.

Even goalkeeper Kaleb Cooper came up for corners and the move almost almost gifted Wychwood a goal, when substitute Duncan Cooper was unfortunate not to score.

It was left to Williams-Sharkey to steal the show with two goals in quick succession to complete the rout.

Chasewell Park 1,

Chipping Norton Tn Swifts U-11 2

A HARD-FOUGHT battle in a high tempo match provided a very entertaining league clash.

The first half saw a very even match until an excellent reaction by Ben Mendoza gave the first goal to the Swifts.

Joe Bennet made a couple of excellent saves that kept Chippy's slim advantage until a great individual run and finish by the Chasewell captain levelled matters.

Chippy moved the ball about better after the break and the pressure paid off when Ben Simms netted a superb winner with a fantastic volley.
