PRINCE Henry's High School put up a strong fight against Kirkley Community College, but their hopes of national glory were dashed after a 3-2 extra-time defeat.
Taking to the pitch at RAF DCAE Cosford, the Evesham girls battled against blustery conditions to score twice through captain Millie Stanley only to miss out on a date in the prestigious RAF Schools' Cup Final at City of Manchester Stadium.
"We were unlucky to lose," a disappointed Stanley reflected. "The girls played brilliantly and it was probably our best performance all season. We did really well to come back from a goal down and maintain our defence right up until extra- time."
Incredibly Coach Gill Richards said, "I'm incredibly proud of the girls. To battle back to 2-2 and take the game into extra-time shows their hearts were really in it.
"Despite not getting through to the finals the girls are all still in high spirits. They've had a wonderful experience and are still high on the excitement of being treated like professional players. They love their new kits and the support from the crowds at the stadium"
The semi-finals always prove to be an incredible day of fun and a great opportunity to showcase some of the country's best youth football talent.
Group Captain Mark Page, of the RAF Inspectorate of Recruiting says, "Their complete dedication never ceases to impress me and each year the standard of football continues to rise.
"All of the players have demonstrated commitment, discipline and drive - qualities that will help them achieve success in life both on and off the pitch."
It's no easy ride getting to the final stages of the RAF Schools' Cup, as ESFA Chairman Gerry Smith explained: "More than two-thirds of English Secondary Schools compete in the RAF Schools Cup, so the players who have reached the semi-finals have done tremendously well to get this far.
"They have done a brilliant job of proving their ability to play top-class football and they should feel a real sense of pride in their achievement."
