THE Mixed B Finals in the Cotswold League took the form of a three-way play-off between St David's, St Catharine's B and Ilmington B who both came through the B team qualifiers.

The B teams showed that they are no pushover in disposing of a Moreton team lacking in match practice.

Caths beat them 5-1 thanks to goals from Jordan Nailor and a hat-trick by Peter Ralph with David Gray scoring the consolation for the losers.

Jim Smith opened Ilmington's account early on, bouncing the ball off a post and keeper.

Lewis Tout then sent a bobbling ball from a free hit straight past Sam O'Donnell to equalise but Ilmington then proceeded to demolish the opposition with eight unanswered goals.

A Lizzie Harding hat-trick, three more from Smith and a brace from Oliver Ferguson gave the Warwickshire team the edge they needed going into the final match.

Threaded One of Smith's efforts was the culmination of a superb move started behind her own goal by Daisy Fossett, who threaded a pass to Harding on the right wing. Harding sent the perfect pass to Smith who was left with an open goal.

Perfect floorball in a match that would have graced an A team event.

Saints had nearly all the pressure for a quarter-of-an-hour, yet it was Joe Pennington who put Ilmington ahead with a bobbling shot past the unsighted Jon Doran.

Saints kept up the pressure with Nailor bouncing the ball off O'Donnell's helmet before picking up the rebound from Jack Hanks' pass to equalise from an impossible angle.

Yet more Saints' pressure failed to yield a goal until Pennington repeated his earlier effort, identical in every respect, to put Ilmington ahead.

Saints refused to give in with Peter Ralph netting a second equaliser. Unfortunately, a Saints' defender was sent to the sin-bin for heading the ball with only four minutes left and Ilmington put in a concerted effort and managed to hold on for the draw.

They went back to their own end, expecting a penalty shoot-out, before realising that they had won because of their goal scoring efforts in the previous match.

Ilmington A will try to emulate their B team by beating Blockley A in next week's mixed final.

Willersey's Georgia Palmer remains top scorer by a long way, with 22 goals in 11 matches. Needless to say she tops the girls scoring table and the table for highest average as well.

Sabrina Rew (Blockley) with ten from13 is next best girl with Tredington's Robbie Faulkner (11 from 8) the best of the boys followed by Tom Drinkwater (Mickleton) who has netted ten goals in six games.
