MORETON town councillors are to hold a special meeting to discuss the town's boulders, which have been dubbed the "new Stonehenge" by some local residents.

About 14 members of the public attended the town council meeting on Monday, to voice their opinion on the Cotswold stone rocks that have been placed to prevent people parking on the town centre green .

Steve Farnsworth, owner of Grimes House Antiques in the High Street, produced a petition, calling on the council to come up with a better solution to the parking problem on the green, which has been signed by 400 people since it was started last week.

However, town clerk Heather Sipthorp said after the meeting that some people who signed the petition may have been misinformed about the cost of the boulders, thinking they were far more expensive than the amount of just over £500 that was actually paid.

Most of this money came from a donation from a film company that had filmed in the town, she said.

The town council has agreed to hold a special meeting to evaluate the results of the petition.

Mrs Sipthorp said Cllr Ben Jeffrey had been asked to arrange for a couple of the boulders to be coated with manure and yoghurt to encourage lichen growth and see if it helped them blend in better.
