GIRLS from Prince Henry's High School in Evesham will be in action at RAF Cosford next Wednesday in the semi-finals of the English Schools Football Association (ESFA) Under-16 semi finals.
More than 50,000 students compete in the prestigious RAF Schools' Cup each year and the Evesham squad is one of the remaining girls teams playing to win a place in the finals to be held at the City of Manchester Stadium on Monday, April 28.
The County Cup winners overcame Matthew Arnold (Oxford) 3-1, Calthorpe Park (Hampshire) 2-1 and Sholing School (Hampshire) 4-3 to reach the last eight where they faced Bristol's Downend School last Wednesday.
Goals from Rosie Johns, who netted all four against Sholing and two against Matthew Arnold, and Millie Stanley helped Henry's to a 2-0 interval lead.
However, despite playing the better football, the tie was all-square ten minutes from time and the visitors had the chance to make it 3-2 but they missed a penalty.
Extra-time brought no further goals and the dreaded penalty shoot-out ensued.
It was 3-3 after five attempts and, after Downend missed, it was left to Vicky Walters to net the winning spot-kick and book a semi-final spot.
Their opponents at the RAF base will be Kirkley School from Suffolk.
