THE Girls' Final of the Cotswold Floorball League was an entertaining match between the holders St Catherine's and Willersey.

The Saints scored an early goal when Lizzie Chambers skilfully turned in a rebound from the defence and they continued to rain in the shots but goalkeeper Sally Gilder kept them out.

She made a great save in the eighth minute, sending the ball downfield for her own forwards to make their first shot of the game. However, the keeper then encountered some bad luck.

Kathryn Birch passed the ball back and Chambers sent it in along the ground past the unsighted Gilder.

Birch scored on her own a minute later after picking up a rebound from a defender with Gilder again unsighted.

Chambers struck high into the net for her hat-trick after picking up a Vivi Bayliss pass around the back of the net.

At this stage, 4-0 down, Willersey came more into the game. The league's top scorer, Georgia Palmer, hit a post twice in as many seconds before finally striking home with five minutes to go in the period.

Willersey's half-time talk must have been a good one for they made 15 shots on the Saints' goal nearly all of which needed top-class saves from Georgina Wilkinson.

Eventually, Jodie Russell made a telling pass to Palmer who sent the ball home from almost halfway.

Palmer tried this again on several occasions but Wilkinson was a match for the league's sharpshooter.

With the score at 4-2, Willersey kept attacking and allowed Saints a mere six shots. The last of these was fired in with just 40 seconds to go.

Chambers passed the ball in front of goal to the unmarked Harriet Kelley who clinched the match with her first goal of the season.

Saints' head teacher, Mike Sessarego, obtained a shield for their win in the 2007 championship and has kindly donated it for future competition.

Great Britain Floorball Federation president, Barry Knight, who also happens to be the Willersey manager, awarded the trophy to this year's winners.

The match was well refereed by Charlie Pinfold and George Woodall, two of our top junior officials, who are both students at Chipping Campden School.

St Catharine's, Ilmington and St David's will play for the B Team Championships next Tuesday evening.
