Chesham Utd 1, Evesham Utd 1
TABLE topping Evesham extended their impressive record to just one defeat in 20 Division One Midlands matches as Steve Lutz's 11th minute strike earned a point at play-off chasing Chesham.
A bumpy surface troubled both teams but Evesham were also guilty of a rare sloppy defensive show that started with Steve Luckett's miskick and a foul by Danny Hodnett that led to Danny Burnell giving the hosts a fourth minute lead from the penalty spot.
Mark Owen's shot was saved eight minutes later but Lutz fired in the rebound from 15 yards and was then denied a second after 17 minutes when his lob hit the crossbar.
The woodwork came to Evesham's rescue after 23 minutes when Winston's effort had Nathan Vaughan scrambling and the visitors were grateful to poor home finishing when Dave Fotheringham seized on Michael Hayden's error after 32 minutes.
Paul Bonar saw a goalbound shot four minutes into the second half touched over the bar while substitute Danny Scheppel curled a shot wide and then saw another drive from distance flash past a post.
Evesham were far more secure at the back in the second period and substitute Allando Davis, who scored the winner when the sides met in December, headed Owen's late cross wide.
While Paul West's men may have failed to win a tenth successive match, the point lifted them seven points clear at the summit with 11 games remaining.
