A local charity has been confirmed as the first organisation included in the new Cotswolds version of Monopoly coming out later.
Fans of the Scottie Dog will be disappointed to hear that the token is getting the boot however pet lovers won’t miss out as The Cotswolds Dogs and Cats Home will be making an appearance.
Creators of the game, Winning Moves UK, has announced the pet rescue as the first of two charities to feature on the board.
Haley Medlock, digital and community fundraiser at The Cotswolds Dogs and Cats Home, said: “We are delighted to be featuring on the forthcoming Cotswolds edition of Monopoly.
“A very big thank you to everyone who voted to us to appear in the game. We are a small, independent animal rescue centre based in the heart of the beautiful Cotswolds – so we are thrilled to being honoured this way.”
While nothing is confirmed, the Cotswold Journal is tipped to feature in the game as are iconic Cotswolds landmarks such as Broadway Tower, Sudeley Castle, and Tewkesbury Abbey.
The inclusion of the pet charity follows a public consultation held last year, where Winning Moves UK invited people to suggest landmarks and charities they wanted to see appear in the new game.
A second charity is set to be confirmed at a later date.
Spokesperson of Monopoly: Cotswolds Edition, Ella Gibbs, said: "Having two Cotswolds charities on the board is our way of thanking the public for getting behind the game so very enthusiastically.
“Thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate different charities. We were wonderfully overwhelmed.”
The new game will see all the classic properties replaced with Cotswolds landmarks and will also see the Chance and Community Chest cards and all the tokens given a localised customisation too.
The Cotswolds Edition is the latest of many localised versions of the popular board game, with Dubai and Palm Springs among the most recent to be released.
It is set to hit the shops around April 8, just in time for Easter.
