AFTER a decade of silence, the bells will at last ring again in Wyck Rissington.

The four bells at St Laurence’s Church have finally been re-hung after £30,000 was raised by dedicated villagers.

Funding for the project was raised from bell restoration grants, donations from the village and fund-raising events including quiz nights, open gardens and the village fete.

Whites of Appleton have been working hard to restore and and retune the bells since May after the roof repairs were completed.

Veron Woodford, committee member, said: “The Friends of St Laurence express their thanks to Andrew and Elizabeth Ransom for all their hard work in applying for funding, to the villagers who gave so generously to both projects, to all those who gave grants and to the good folks who organised events in the village.

“Last but not least to the craftsmen who worked tirelessly to complete the tasks to time and within budget.

Everyone has contributed to preserving our fantastic heritage for future generations.”

A group of villagers practised bell ringing techniques over the summer under the watchful eye of Jeremy Meyrick from the North Cotswold branch of the Diocesan Bell Ringers Association.

The bells will be heard for the first time on Thursday, November 29.
